Description

Leaf is from a late fifteenth century French or Flemish Book of Hours. Red ruling. Twenty lines on both recto and verso; text begins below upper line. Large, rectangular border along unbound side of text, one on either side of leaf. Borders decorated with flowers, acanthus leaves, and strawberries on gold leaf ground. Diamond minims indicate Gothic Textura script.

Leaf contains partial text of Psalms 24 and 26. Second Nocturne of Matins to be said on Tuesdays and Fridays, part of the Office of the Dead.

Recto (Image B) begins with Psalm 24, verse 16. Latin Vulgate translation. Psalm 24 completed through verse 22. Antiphon. Verse 7 of Psalm 24 listed. Antiphon. Recto closes with partial second verse of Psalm 26. Verso (Image A) continues Psalm 26 through verse six. Initials for each verse noted by larger, rectangular decorative letters with vine-like motif. Initials in gold leaf on alternating red and blue rectangular grounds.
