Book of Hours, Hours of the Virgin at Matins (Officium Beatae Mariae, ad Matutinum). Northern France or the Netherlands, late 15th Century. Liturgical Use of of Châlons-sur-Marne. Medieval manuscript leaf, parchment, containing text and decoration, including illuminated, foliated panels and illuminated initials. Gold illumination on decorative elements; floral decorative elements include acanthus (recto and verso), flowers (blue and red on recto, white and pink on verso), and fruit (blueberries on verso). The script is a Gothic textura with slightly diamond minims, 20 lines to the page with ink ruling. There are six notable illuminated initials on the recto, one on the recto; each page has one 2-line “S” initial. Red rubrication is in bold red ink.

Text contains the second half of Psalm 23 in the Latin Vulgate translation; antiphons, versicles, and responsories relating to the Office at Matins; and prayers and hymns to the Virgin Mary.
